Week 3 #guelphmusicclub

This week’s write-up on #guelphmusicclub week 3 will be short and sweet – I’m on the losing end of a battle with a cold that just won’t die! *achoo*

My pick this week was actually produced in 2013, but I didn’t discover this gem until 2014. (Which @matcalverley said was ok, so if you take issue with my rule-bending, he’s your guy.) It’s from Puscifer, another Maynard James Keenan-lead group of misfits (Tool and A Perfect Circle are his others, and if you don’t know one or both of them, then I’m sorry, but we simply can’t be friends).

Now normally, I’m on the fence about covers, especially ones of musical greats like Freddie Mercury. I HEART FREDDIE SO MUCH!  But I digress. Musically, this is a very sound cover, densely layered and true to the original, but of course with a touch of its own originality (otherwise, what’s the point?).

How do you feel about covers, #guelphmusicclub? Have a listen to Bohemian Rhapsody (O.G. Mix) from Donkey Punch The Night and see what you think.

WARNING…the video is equal parts awesome and disturbing. But who needs sleep anyway, right?
